As commercial insurance brokers we are often contacted by third party companies offering Health & Safety/Legal Compliance consultancy services, and we append details of some of the companies/arrangements known to us, along with some of the bespoke services and costings we have negotiated for our customers,

Most of these services fall into two categories. The law dictates that that every employer must appoint a competent person to advise on:

The suitability of risk assessments
The suitability of risk control measures
The organisation's health & safety requirements

Consultancies offer to cover this requirement in two ways:

1. An annual contract, offering guidance, documentation etc. and consultancy on an ongoing basis

OR

2. The provision of "one-off" surveys on specific issues, for an agreed fee, to assist your nominated competent person.

NB The Combined cost represents the H&S inspection and the fire risk assessment being carried out at the same time. These costs remain valid until April 2006 whereupon the new fire regulations (as proposed) come into force making the fire risk assessment a more time consuming and therefore costly exercise (increase of approx £100 per site).
